History:
The mafia in sicily started for the protection of the sicilians
against foreign overlords, as time went by they didn't need protection against anybody...except them selves.
they spread
across the world in order to see who needed protection and protect them but not in a civilized way. To be in the mafiosi you
had to make vow's, one was "Omerta" The code of silence, these codes held them together as a famiglia (family),
they made illegel rackets in order to make money, fast, although they may have got cought during these illegel endevours,
it didnt stop there progression abit, all through the 1900's the sicilian, sicilian/american mafia ruled and had won against
law.
Present:THE DOWNFALL
nothing could stop these "Man of Honour"
except themselves, and that is what they did.Omerta had been broken for the first time, and others were soon to follow, i
think as soon as mafiosi saw how they can brake it and save them selves from life inprisonment and servive, it was a dramatic
downfall, as usual mafiosi were getting caught in rackets, put to court, get out of court, or go to jail. Now this is were
it changes, instead of taking the sentance they would rat and be put in a witness protection program.Now different mafiosi
families in america (LCN), are getting as many people in their families as possible because they lost so many, but what they
are doing wrong is trusting, they are allowing all these "street thugs" into their family, this just leads to more
rats. Another factor of the present downfall is undercover cops, in the old days, you had to be well known, apart of your
immediate family, close friend or close associate to be accepted as a high rank in your family.Now you got people like Donni
Brasco, seeping through the family, then bringing them all down. Of course even the ones you trust can brake omerta (Sammy
the bull)
In conclusion, my opinion is that they are trusting too much, they will keep recieving this blows until they
become more harsh with Omerta.They should also make more ties with different mafiosi, like the asian triads.
Future:
There are many different countries that have addopted the idea of the mafia.These new growths will take on great endevours
like LCN, and experience even bigger downfalls, they will also reach great victories, LCN will strive to survive if it continues
the way it is, but i do have faith in believing La Cosa Nuova and other sicilian, and italian bassed mafia will be unthinkably
powerfull, and as a re-birth will go to countries such as America and take over where it left off. Still, the only chance
of mafiosi survival no matter what nationality is if they dont trust too much, stick to vow's and work with each other for
different things.....thats just my opinion
